Choose the right visibility for a content script
Choose whether each content script is private, unlisted, or public.
Steps
- Not every piece of content should be visible to everyone. An internal draft, a customer-specific demo, and a public help article each have different audiences — and Ottoclip's visibility setting is how you control who sees what. Screenshot
- The group sets the starting visibility. A content script in a published group starts as Public, and one in an unpublished group starts as Unlisted. Screenshot
- The visibility drop-down chooses who can see the generated content. Most plans have three options. The Enterprise plan adds a fourth, Internal, which limits viewing to signed-in users in your company. It's the right choice for internal procedures and training. Screenshot
- Choose Private when the content is a work-in-progress draft. Only signed-in users in your company can see it, and a shared link won't open it for anyone else. Use it while you're still iterating on a script.
- Choose Unlisted when the content is finished but meant for a specific audience, like a demo you're emailing to one prospect or a beta walkthrough for early-access users. Anyone with the link can view it without signing in, but it isn't listed on your hosted contents site.
- Choose Public when the content is ready for everyone, like a help article or a feature video. Public needs a paid plan, so free-plan content stays Unlisted. Public content is listed on your hosted site when its group is published, and it gets embed code for your own site. Screenshot
- Here's the practical rule. Start a new script as Private while you build it, move it to Unlisted for targeted sharing or review, and make it Public once the content is accurate and ready for everyone.
- You can change visibility at any time, for example when a reviewed draft becomes a public help article. Next, watch Content sharing and distribution to see each way to send your content once it's visible. Screenshot
